Penis enhancement surgery Pros and Cons

by Penis Enhancement on December 16, 2011

By nature we men are not satisfied with what we have, and this is the reason why most of us tend to go the distance and improve the things that we own, or improve what we have. This gave birth to many procedures and surgeries, including the enhancement of penile length. So don’t be surprised to find that the popularity of penile enhancement is on the rise. In fact for the past 15 years, many plastic and urologic surgeons have tried to enhance penile length in order to please the needs of men.

With the growing popularity of the procedure come the costs. Because the demand is high, there were attempts to do the procedure in a questionable manner and there were reports of poorly documented procedures with poor results. This brings home the point that male surgery or penis enhancement surgery is not 100-percent safe; there are risks involved  as well and one must be aware of all these. Though the advancements in medicine and medications for the past 10 years helped the procedure, still there were issues and claims made against penis enhancement surgery.

What is clear is that one should have a clear understanding of the procedure and its pros and cons. Listed below are some of the major concerns about penis enhancement surgery.

Is penis enhancement surgery safe?

It should be noted that the techniques and procedures that are used for penile enhancement surgery are not yet validated in terms of safety and efficiency. This is also the stand of the American Urological Association, and added that there are no researches made that can back up these procedures. What we have right now is purely experimental approach to penile enhancement. Also, it is not yet established if the benefits of the surgery will outweigh the risks involved.

There are a number of risks and complications that are usually identified with penile enhancement:

  • Keloid scars; this is a tick scar that can cause a shorter penis
  • Erection of penis may be affected and may no longer erect upwards
  • Bleeding and infection
  • Skin incision separation
  • Fibrosis or the thickening of the superficial vein in the organ which in turn affects the flow of blood
  • Bruising or called ecchymosis
  • Decrease in penile activity and sensation due to nerve injury
  • Edema or the temporary swelling of the skin
  • Seroma or the temporary collection of serum under the skin
  • Erectile Dysfunction
  • Sexual Dysfunction and penile shortening. If these are noted, another round of surgery may be required.

Prohibitive cost of penis enhancement surgery

Penis enhancement surgery is not cheap, the procedure can cost from $3000 to $10000 in the United States. It doesn’t mean  that just because this is the most expensive option, one can expect immediate results from it. Penile enhancement surgery does not guarantee positive results, and as such one should strongly consider the other options before jumping into the procedure and mindlessly spend thousands of dollars.

Improvement of increased size and girth is difficult to achieve

Roughly 5 percent of the men who were subjected to the procedure did not report an increase in length of the penis in its erect or flaccid state right after surgery. In most cases, the genitalia is not lengthened rather it is just pulled further out of the body and the subsequent increase in length will depend on the anatomy of the person. The typical increase ranges from 1 to ½” to 2” and it’s difficult to find out the length gain before the surgery. In some procedures, the penile length was reduced because of the scar tissue that contracts after some time. Also when the suspensory ligaments are cut, the angle of erection is affected.

Putting penile enhancement surgery in proper perspective

Penile enhancement surgery is a serious procedure and for this reason it is important that one should carefully evaluate his options by taking a look at the risks, complications and other factors that can affect the efficacy of the procedure. Because of the inherent risks of the procedure, it is recommended that the interested person should have a talk first with a doctor and should consider penile enhancement surgery as a last option.

Best alternative to surgery

Surgery is a huge step to take, it’s expensive, a lot to go through and often unnecessary. Surgery can be an effective enhancement method, but why go through all that if you can get the same results in a much safer and cheaper way.

Penis extenders have worked for thousands of men and are give to some patients after penis enhancement surgery to stretch the penis even longer. You can get the results you want with a good traction device.
